"Pfft. Hardly worth my time."
―Latch, after winning a match

Latch is a playable character in Lethal League and Lethal League Blaze.

About[]

There is no reason to pretend that Latch doesn’t have flaws, because he does. Namely, his offense. It can be very hard to kill with latch, as his angles aren’t very threatening. However, he does have a few good qualities. He is quite good when it comes to ball hogging, especially when you use his special to recover in a pinch. His angles are very wide, which allows him to have long range control, rather than having to rely on very tight ball control. Furthermore, his wall tech is unparalleled, allowing for a great way to keep the ball at arm’s length, as well as punish steal attempts. The wall is also a great place to fall back on if you need to defend. His fastfall is yet another great tool to trip up your opponent and create some distance. As for his special, it’s very basic, but does give you some time to move around and find a better spot, if necessary. Nonetheless, you will most likely have a hard time killing with him, often having to rely on baits or offensive reads in order to punish your opponents. Though success is definitely possible with this character, his playstyle is not at all straightforward, and you will need a good understanding of nearly everything in the game in order to make up for his low offensive and interceptive potential.

Blaze Bio[]

Latch is a crocodile outfitted with a mechanical tail. Enhancements to his spine and brain allow him to function in human society. He is in possession of tremendous physical as well as mental strength. His personality is calculated, his movement is raw.

Gameplay[]

Mobility[]

Latch can wall-climb by maintaining a jump input upon impacting a wall, and must be held to stay on the wall. Unlike Switch, Latch can swing from the wall without giving up his position. This gives him a new downward neutral angle and also changes his hitboxes slightly.

Special Move[]

Upon activating special, Latch scoops the ball into his mouth. Latch will keep the ball in his mouth until the ball's original hitpause is used up, at which point he spits it back out. Latch can bunt out of special at any time, allowing him to mix up his opponent. When Latch spits the ball out at an angle, he can choose Up, Forward, Air/Ground Down, and his "Latchflip" angle in the direction he is facing. By inputting only Down, Latch will use Air Down in the air and Ground Down on the ground, and by inputting Forward + Down, Latch will spit it downward at his Latchflip angle, which is a different, shallow angle.

Trivia[]

  • Latch's mechanical tail is part of Team Reptile's logo.
  • Many people have speculated that Latch has some sort of mechanical parts under his hat, but it has been confirmed to be just scales.
  • Latch's name is a possible reference to ''The Latch Brothers'', composers for the game Jet Set Radio Future.
  • Latch can perform his special on corpses, causing them to disappear forever as if Latch ate them.
  • Rex, Raptor's grandfather and founder of Rex Works, was the individual who allegedly turned Latch into a cyborg, as seen in the story of Switch's DLC skin "Insectoid Loneriding Mechranger".
  • Latch made a guest appearance in the cooking game, Cook, Serve, Delicious as a playable character in the Battle Kitchen mode.

DLC Skin Lore[]

High up in a seemingly abandoned skyscraper, on an empty floor without entrance there stands a single large closet. In that closet hangs a contraption, something from a time Toxic would rather not think about. Using the data she had found on Latch, she delved into questionable arts and created an ivory automaton. As a product of her mindstate at the time it turned erratic and hostile. Now it's sealed away, set to activate if Toxic would ever be captured by the Shine City Police. -Ivory Puppet: Killer
